Kara, Founder

Kara Andrews - BelleJoy Founder

Hey there, I'm Kara Andrews, the founder and heart behind BelleJoy Support. Novocastrian born & raised, middle child extraordinaire, and all-around enthusiast for turning life's challenges into a joyous adventure.

I grew up in a loving household where my parents ran an electrical business. They instilled in me the importance of being a good boss, provider, and role model—oh, and never forgetting to give back to the community. No pressure, right?.

After school, I dove headfirst into working in the family business, wearing many hats over 15 years—figuratively, not literally. Accounts and finance became my jam, and during that time, I also managed to squeeze in a wedding and pop out two mini-me's, aka my daughters.

  • In 2017, the universe handed me a golden ticket—to step out of the office and dive into the world of the Disability Sector as a Support Worker. Talk about a career change! Witnessing how some people were living pulled on my heartstrings. Cue the light bulb moment—why not create homes and supports where I'd joyfully drop off my loved ones? Genius, right?

Enter BelleJoy Support, named after my dynamic duo of daughters. Our teal branding isn't just a trendy colour; it's our nod to Ovarian Cancer Awareness. Inspired by my beautiful mum. She'd probably roll her eyes at all this attention, but hey, it's for a good cause.

At BelleJoy, we're not just creating support services; we're crafting havens of happiness, sprinkled with a dash of uniqueness and a whole lot of heart. Join me on this wild ride, where we turn challenges into joy and prove that laughter really is the best medicine.

Claire Yeatman

Claire Yeatman - General Manager

G’day! I’m Claire Yeatman, General Manager of BelleJoy since June 2023—and yes, I still sound like I just hopped off the plane from England (because I did, in 2009). I moved to Australia to join my family and chase a bit of sunshine, although I’ll admit it took me years to stop calling 20°C a “heatwave.” Now I call Newcastle home after trading Melbourne for this fantastic role.

My career has been a bit of a buffet, with stints in Family Violence, Disability, Aged Care, Youth, Police, and Corrections. Basically, if it involves advocating for vulnerable people, I’ve been there with bells on. Along the way, I’ve picked up a couple of fancy awards, including one from Africause for championing disadvantaged communities and another for “Outstanding Leadership.” Not bad for someone who still gets confused by “arvo” and “avo.”

  • At BelleJoy, I’m all about creating spaces where people feel valued, supported, and ready to shine. I like to think I lead with heart, vision, and a sprinkling of British humour—though you’re more likely to hear me cracking jokes about Vegemite than actually eating it.

When I’m not at work, you’ll find me living my best Aussie life on my hobby farm, where my chickens have more sass than sense. I’m also into Harley rides, horse riding, jet skiing, and absolutely murdering karaoke classics like Livin’ on a Prayer. My weekends? Usually spent near the beach with my dogs or hanging out with family, soaking up this glorious Aussie lifestyle.

Oh, and I officially became an Australian citizen in 2023! Does that mean I now understand cricket? Absolutely not. But I’m giving it a go, one snag at a time.

Katie, Team Leader

Katie Newell - Operations Manager

I’m a loyal, loving, and passionate person who absolutely lives for this sector — this isn’t just a job for me, it’s my happy place. I take trust super seriously, because at the end of the day, people are putting their loved ones in our care — and that’s a privilege I never take lightly. I believe a little kindness, a lot of heart, and a sprinkle of humour can go a long way.

I’ve been part of the BelleJoy Support family since we opened our doors in 2019, and what a wild and wonderful ride it’s been! I’ve watched our participants absolutely smash their goals, and I’ve seen BelleJoy evolve into a vibrant, chaotic, love-filled community — the kind where you walk in and instantly feel at home (probably because someone’s already offered you a cuppa).

  • I’m lucky enough to work alongside a team of absolute legends who share my passion for putting participants first. You’ll often catch me singing, dancing, and occasionally embarrassing myself around the office and in the homes — because why not spread a little joy while we work? Talent-wise, I’m somewhere between Beyoncé and a karaoke disaster, but that’s never stopped me before.

Before life at BelleJoy, I spent a year living my best life in London (yes, I did develop a love for pubs and proper chips) and a couple of years in Sydney working as a recruitment consultant. Somewhere in there, I also became a proud mum to my beautiful boy and worked for an ophthalmologist — because clearly, I love to keep things interesting.

When I’m not at work, you’ll probably find me at the beach, around a BBQ, or planning the next excuse to gather my friends and family for a laugh (and maybe a cheeky cocktail). I’ve also played touch football and basketball, refereed basketball for New South Wales, and generally like to keep life as full and fun as possible.

Wendy Lahrs

Wendy Lahrs - Program Manager

Meet Wendy, a seasoned professional with over 20 years of experience in Children Services, Disability, and Mental Health. Armed with a Diploma in Community Service and a Certificate IV in Leadership and Management, Wendy has worn many hats—from Educator and Support Worker to Supervisor, Operations Manager, and Team Leader. She's learned a ton along the way and has loved supporting every participant she's met.

When she's not busy being a superstar in the community services sector, Wendy loves spending quality time with her husband and children. She’s an avid reader who can often be found lost in a good book, enjoys peaceful walks, and absolutely adores the beach.

  • But wait, there's more! Wendy has a passion for old classic cars. Over the years, she and her family have owned many vintage beauties and enjoy going to car shows. Currently, they are in the midst of building two cars, which they hope to hit the road with soon.

Wendy brings a wealth of experience, a nurturing spirit, and a touch of classic charm to everything she does. Whether she’s leading a team, supporting participants, or cruising in a classic car, Wendy does it all with enthusiasm and a smile.

Team Leader

Melanie Parkes - Team Leader

Hi there!

My journey in the Disability Sector began way back in 1993, when I was a fresh faced 19-year-old working in the heart of London. With no car and the boundless energy of youth, I literally ran through the streets to reach participant’s homes. Fast forward to today, at the grand age of 50, I might not run anymore, but my energy and passion for supporting participants to achieve their goals are still going strong! As a child, I dreamed of being an explorer, and honestly, not much has changed. I love turning every support shift into an adventure, because life is too short not to make it exciting!

  • By nature, I’m a helper, a mentor, and a coach, and I thrive in a team setting, especially here at BelleJoy. We’re incredibly lucky to have some of the most passionate and dedicated support workers in the game. Together, we don’t believe in a “one-size-fits-all” approach, instead, we customise our care to help every individual live their absolute best life.

Outside of work, I’m a proud human rights warrior and spend my time volunteering with disadvantaged children, both locally and abroad. When I’m not doing that, you’ll find me climbing mountains, diving into the ocean, or creating something beautiful through art. My family and friends are my anchors, and spending time with them is my favourite way to recharge. For me, it’s all about healthy bodies, healthy minds, and living life to the fullest.

Being part of the BelleJoy family is the cherry on top, everyone here truly goes above and beyond to support participants to live their best lives.

Team Leader - Josh Lamberton

Joshua Lamberton - Team Leader

Hi, I’m Josh!

I’m thrilled to have joined the BelleJoy family as a Team Leader for 2 of our incredible SIL homes. Let me tell you, this is no ordinary job, it’s an adventure filled with amazing people and unforgettable moments!

I kicked off my career in the disability sector at the ripe old age of 19, back in Bathurst. Supporting some truly incredible individuals back then sparked something in me that’s only grown over the years. I’ve worked with people with all kinds of support needs and have been lucky enough to meet some seriously inspiring folks along the way.

  • Fast forward a bit, and I stepped into my first leadership role as a Team Leader, a hat I’ve now been wearing for five years. Let’s just say, I’ve learned a thing or two!. This journey has fuelled my passion for making a real difference and reminds me every day why I love this work.

At BelleJoy, I’m lucky to work with some of the best people in the biz. We’re all united by a shared commitment to providing top-notch care and support. Plus, the team feels like family, it’s a positive, person-centred vibe that makes it an amazing place to be, not just for participants but for us as staff too.

When I’m not at work, you’ll find me hanging out with my beautiful partner and our fur baby, Castle. Life outside of work is all about balance, whether I’m kicking a soccer ball, tearing up a volleyball court, or pretending to be aerodynamic in a triathlon (yes, that’s an interesting mix, I know). I’m also a big fan of weekends spent camping, 4x4 driving, and having a laugh with my mates.

So that’s me in a nutshell, passionate about what I do, always up for an adventure, and proud to be part of the BelleJoy family!

Brody, Team Leader

Brody Dougherty - Team Leader

Learning the ropes to being a support worker and finding a passion in a new field of employment is exciting and something I’ve been enjoying.

I’m managing 2 homes with 3 participants and finding my legs as a manager. BelleJoy has allowed me to grow in my chosen field being disability and provided me with the tools to excel.

BelleJoy really has made me feel like family and filled the void of moving from my hometown in Gloucester to the big smoke a lot less daunting.

Kara Davies - Team Leader

Hi, I'm Kara, originally from Scotland, but I’ve been calling Australia home for the last six years. I moved here with my Australian husband in search of a better and warmer lifestyle, and I haven’t looked back since! We have two amazing boys, and as a family, we love exploring all that this gorgeous country has to offer.

The beach is where I feel most at peace—the ocean has a way of soothing my soul like nothing else. When I’m not soaking in the sea breeze, you’ll find me getting creative with arts and crafts, always experimenting with new projects – which rarely get finished if I’m being honest!!!

  • I’m also a big fan of live music and rock gigs. Over the years, I’ve had the chance to see many bands, and next year I’m excited to take my kids to their very first concert to see Green Day—what an adventure that will be!

Outside of work, I love taking long walks with my dog, a lovable German Shepherd cross Border Collie. She’s a bit of a dope, but I wouldn’t trade her for anything. Her goofy nature always makes my day brighter.

I have worked in the disability sector for 20 years—it's been my passion since leaving school. Helping others live their lives to the fullest has always been my calling, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to do this every day.

I’m delighted to be a part of BelleJoy as a Team Leader.  The staff and participants here are truly wonderful, and I feel so lucky to be a part of such a supportive and caring community.

Vanessa, HR and Recruitment

Vanessa Neighbour - Team Leader

Hi, I’m Vanessa. Before joining BelleJoy, I spent just under 20 years working in a corporate environment. Using my degree in marketing to deliver education programs and marketing campaigns that were meaningful, measurable, and engaging. It was a high-pressure environment, but I loved collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to bring our collective ideas to life and meet our business goals.

Then came my life changing moment. A dance with the “Big C” - Breast Cancer. Forced to take some time out for treatment and recovery, I had time think and take stock of my life, realising what was truly important to me - my people. My loved ones, family, and friends. My sole goal during this time was to be here to keep experiencing and making memories with them.

  • Fast forward two years, I was elated to be off the sick train. Cancer free and back at work. But my focus had changed. I was no longer fulfilled and started yearning for something new. Closer to home and more aligned to my values.

That’s what brought me to BelleJoy and my new career in HR. I remember walking away from my first interview and thinking how good it felt. How the values of the Director resonated with my own and how inspired I felt by her vision for BelleJoy. I joined the BelleJoy Family almost two years ago. I am completing online studies in HR. My days can be hectic and are always varied. From recruiting new support workers and onboarding them, to answering complex questions regarding employment laws. All while heating my morning coffee in the microwave three times before lunch and talking to myself in the corridors!. 😊

My goal is to continue to support our people to grow into the best support workers and versions of themselves they can be through creating a safe and healthy work environment where everyone can be themselves and be valued for the contributions they make.

When I’m not at work, I look after my own crazy at home. My partner Jim,  12-year-old son Ben, and a menagerie of birds, fish and cats. I spend time with my family and friends creating fun memories to cherish always.

Nigel Darcy – Support Worker

G'day! I'm a proud product of a small country town, hailing from a big, loving Aboriginal family. Known for being as reliable as your mum's best casserole and as loyal as your favourite footy jersey, I'm your go-to mate for just about anything.
I've played almost every sport under the Aussie sun – rugby league, golf, tennis, squash, basketball, and yes, even mixed netball (yes, it's as intense as it sounds!).
Since April 2021 I've been at BelleJoy Support, where the best part of my day is seeing the participants' faces light up with smiles. Knowing I've helped them through their day, taught them something new, or simply made their day a bit brighter. You can generally find me firing up the BBQ, sharing a yarn over a snag, or getting out and about with our participants.

  • Before my current gig, I’ve donned many hats – from a qualified butcher slicing through the day, to a plant machine operator making things tick, and even the assistant manager of the local golf club. Speaking of golf, I'm a keen golfer who never misses a chance to hit the green. If there's a game, you can bet your last meat pie I'll be there, clubs in hand.

    So, that's me in a nutshell – a sport-loving, BBQ-mastering, smile-spreading bloke who's always up for a round of golf and a good laugh.

Michelle, Support Worker

Michelle Watson - Support Worker

Balancing life as a devoted wife, mum to two fabulous daughters, and doting Nana to a grandson who keeps her young with weekly babysitting adventures, Michelle is our go-to for all things heartwarming and hilarious.

A sports enthusiast, Michelle channels her competitive spirit into everything she does, whether it’s cheering from the sidelines or conquering new challenges at work. Family is her cornerstone, and weekends are often spent surrounded by her extended family, creating cherished memories and probably plotting the next great social event.

  • Michelle’s journey began at the tender age of 15 at Flemmings supermarket, where she went from the front lines at checkout to mastering multiple departments as a manager. After countless years (she’s not counting, why should we?), she decided it was time for a new adventure. Turning 50 sparked a desire to make a more profound impact, leading her to earn her Certificate III in Aged and Disability Care. She spent eight rewarding years making a difference at a local aged care.

In 2021, seeking more personalised connections and a chance to truly go the extra mile, Michelle joined BelleJoy Support as a disability support worker. Here, she’s found her perfect fit, blending compassion with action and never looking back.

With Michelle on board, expect a blend of dedication, laughter, and a sprinkle of cheeky charm that makes every day a bit brighter!

Ryan Mulhearn - Support Worker

Father of two awesome kids who think I'm basically a superhero—at least until it's bedtime. As a kid, I dreamed of being a scientist, fascinated by everything from bugs to elements, and especially explosions (who doesn't love a good kaboom?). I spent a decade as a chef, turning veggies into gourmet delights, and now I channel my personal passion for health and nutrition into everyday life.

In my downtime, you'll find me fishing, playing sports, or enjoying the great outdoors. I'm a die-hard Penrith Panthers fan living in the heart of Newcastle Knights territory, proudly rocking black and teal in a sea of red and blue. Whether I'm deep into a video game adventure or experimenting with fashion (yes, dads can be stylish too!), I stay creative.

  • Since 2022, I've been dedicated to my role at BelleJoy. Working here has been an incredibly positive and excellent experience. Reliable, funny, and always up for fun, I'm passionate about supporting people with disabilities and proving that compassion and commitment can truly change lives.

Sharon Reynolds - Support Worker

Sharon Reynolds - Support Worker

Meet Sharon, our vibrant and ever-energetic support worker at BelleJoy Support! With three adult kids—a daughter and twin boys—Sharon perfected the art of juggling chaos early on. Needless to say, her hands were full, and her heart even fuller. Now, with six grandchildren who light up her world, Sharon’s family means everything to her, and she’d move mountains for them.

A fierce competitor, Sharon’s days of playing sports might be over, but her passion for cheering on her kids and grandkids is stronger than ever. From the sidelines, she’s their biggest fan, with a competitive spirit that’s hard to beat.

  • As our resident social butterfly, Sharon is always the first to put her hand up to organize or attend any social event. Fiercely loyal, she has friends that have been by her side for life. Whatever Sharon does, she dives in headfirst and gives it her all, bringing boundless energy and enthusiasm to every task.
Throughout her varied career, no job has been as rewarding as her current role as a support worker at BelleJoy Support. Sharon loves organizing catch-ups, whether it’s for participants or staff, making sure everyone feels connected and included. After many years out of the classroom, Sharon proudly earned her Certificate III in Disability Care, proving it’s never too late to learn something new.
Passionate and dedicated, Sharon gives 100% to help participants achieve their goals, with a heart that’s as soft as it is big.
As she works her way into retirement, don’t expect Sharon to disappear anytime soon. It’s going to take more than that to get rid of her infectious enthusiasm and unwavering commitment at BelleJoy Support!

Troy Andrews

Hey, I’m Troy! After 17 years at Ausgrid, I’ve traded in powerlines for garden beds and joined the BelleJoy team. You’ll usually find me outside mowing lawns, tending to the gardens, or generally trying to look busy. I also do my best to support my wife wherever I can—which usually means nodding along, moving heavy things, rearranging rooms, and hanging pictures (sometimes more than once if she changes her mind).

I’ve got two daughters who have somehow grown up way too fast, and with that has come an increase in both my grey hairs and hair loss. Teenagers, huh? If they keep this up, I might be completely bald by next year.

  • When I’m not keeping BelleJoy’s yards looking top-notch, I’m at home trying to convince my wife that a proper basketball court in the backyard is a necessity (jury’s still out on that one).I’m a die-hard sports fan, cheering on the Newcastle Knights, New York Giants, and Golden State Warriors. Being a Knights fan in recent years has been character-building to say the least, but that hasn’t stopped me from attending every home game—because apparently, I enjoy emotional suffering.

Outside of work, I love traveling and exploring new places with my family—whether it’s a big overseas adventure or just a weekend away, I’m always up for making new memories (and trying to redeem myself after forgetting the family visas once, which, you know, was kind of the one job I had).

If you ever need a chat about anything even slightly sports related, or the best way to keep a lawn looking fresh, I’m your guy!
